St John the Baptist

St. John the Baptist

Franciscan brothers founded the church in 1529; the bronze statue was created in 1998. All worshippers and visitors entering and leaving the Cathedral through the nave portals pass by it.

Thousands of churches, villages, towns, rivers, lakes, bays, mountains, and other places in the Americas have been named in honor of John, who points us to Jesus, “The Lamb of God.”
